Gloucester has the energy of urban communities like Orleans and Vanier, and the charm of rural villages. It's a highly successful and harmonious mix of anglophone and francophone heritage. There is a large immigrant population consisting mainly of Arabs and Africans . The immediate area surrounding DOC is largely made of working class families. Gloucester is surrounded by four high schools within a one kilometer radius, two major shopping centres, restaurants, a movie theater and a variety of community centres that serve the area.
